The main responsibilities of the Queensland Government include public transport, state highways, education, law enforcement, health and environment. Most of the Government departments and agencies have offices in Hervey Bay or Maryborough.

The State Ombudsman deals with complaints against Queensland Government departments.
In times of disaster the State Emergency Services may be contacted at their Hervey Bay depot.
