FFC 19-12-2009_EGN_05_18hbcourthouse_t325The State Government has the responsibility for providing a police force, law courts and a corrective prison / rehabilitation system. Supreme, District, Magistrates and Childrens' Courts are established to handle both civil and criminal matters. The Small Claims Tribunal settles disputes between traders and customers.

Hervey Bay has a police station, Magistrate's Court and a Dispute Resolution Mediation Centre at Scarness. District and Supreme Courts are located in Maryborough. The Public Trustee may be found in Maryborough and Justices of the Peace are available locally. Free legal services may be sought through the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre, Taylor Street Legal service and the Seniors Legal and Support Service. 

The Family Court and bankruptcy cases are the responsibility of the Federal Government.  Anti-discrimination assistance is available.
