Festivals and Events

Many craft, floral, cultural, youth, and sporting events organised byImage local, State and National interest groups are held throughout the year. Such events are part of the fabric of Hervey Bay life. A major event is the Hervey Bay Whale Festival held during mid-August. Festivities continue for two weeks with such activities as the Blessing of the Fleet Carnival, floral art display, teddy bears picnic and culminating with the electric light parade.

Part of the Whale Festival, the Funfest is held at the Seafront oval over three days and nights and includes food stalls, family entertainment, live bands, side show and fireworks.

The Multicultural Festival in early May is one of the highlights of the year. With three days of international workshops and entertainment involving music, song and dance, worldwide cultures unite and celebrate life in Australia.

A recent addition to the events calendar is the USQ Mid-Winter Music Festival held in July and which features the USQ Big Band along with local music groups and orchestra.

In 2008 the Local Arts Council started it first year of the Hervey Bay Jazz festival with a wonderful 3 day event.  The 2009 Jazz Festival will be held over the weekend 1/8/09 at the Mantra Resort.

Both Hervey Bay and Maryborough also get into the Christmas spirit with a Lights Up Competition for both households and businesses.

See the events section for a calendar of events with all festivals, community events, theatre, music and drama listed.

There is something for everyone and a great time to be had in Hervey Bay.
