Ecotourism

Whilst Hervey Bay between August to October is a major location for observingImage Humpback whales with their calves returning to their feeding grounds in Antarctica, it also offers other year-round ecotourism experiences with its unspoiled beaches, flying fox colony and diversity of flora and fauna.

Attractions such as an aquarium, shark show and shell display provide on land attractions while opportunities exist to observe the coral reef, turtles, dolphins and dugongs in their natural environment. Pelicans on the foreshore are a regular sight. Sea grass research is being undertaken in the area.

Fraser Island is a popular destination from Hervey Bay.

The Fraser Coast region makes a point of nurturing its environment. Parkland, trees and nature reserves fringe the waterfront, ensuring an unbroken haven for wild life. The Botanic Gardens offer a leafy retreat, but are also popular as a perfect venue for weddings and celebrations. The walkway / cycle path along the Esplanade and the various piers provide vantage points from which the tranquility of the Bay and the antics of its inhabitants can be observed.
