Culture

The Butchulla people are the original inhabitants of the area of Hervey Bay. They participate in and hold many different cultural activities, both for Indigenous and non Indigenous people.Image

ImageHervey Bay is also extremely fortunate in having a large number of people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who bring with them many varied multicultural activities. The annual Multicultural festival highlights and celebrates the multicultural diversity of the population.

Arts and Crafts are offered at local markets, expos and in the many galleries and shops in the area. Hervey Bay has a regional art gallery. Writers', artists' and potters' groups are some of the many local creative arts groups and a very strong Arts Council who offer free entertainment in the parks, Hervey Bay's got talent for both Seniors and Juniors and of course the wonderful Jazz Festival.

The City has a respected and talented orchestra and choir. It also has a variety of theatre groups with theatre for all ages from junior, teen and through to adult theatre restaurants productions being staged all year. Throughout both the rural and urban areas of Hervey Bay, many people and organisations have maintained the history of Hervey Bay through museums, monuments and festivals.

The annual Whale Watch festival commences with the Blessing of the Fleet. Many Hervey Bay couples take advantage of the Bush Chapel in the Botanic Gardens and the historical church at the museum as wedding venues.
